About Me:
Hi! My name is Alyson, and I am currently enrolled at Ivy Tech in Hamilton County, majoring in elementary education. I already have a bachelor’s degree from Anderson University and am CDA-certified. Over the next few years, I will be working towards my goal of becoming a licensed teacher.
My love for children has always been deeply rooted, and I continually gravitate towards them in any work environment. I have several years of classroom experience and gained valuable knowledge while helping to open a preschool in Michigan, working on the school’s curriculum, and serving as a lead teacher for ages four and five for many years. I am excited about having my own classroom one day, where I can continue my passion for teaching children, guiding them, and being a supportive presence in their lives. A few things about me: I love spending time with my daughter, being outdoors, staying active, watching movies, reading books, and being creative. Thanks for your time!
Philosophy of Education:
The philosophy that aligns closely with my perspective is progressivism, which places students at the center of the educational process and considers their interests, needs, abilities, and experiences. Recognizing that every student is unique, it is essential to remain flexible and demonstrate multiple approaches to learning. My elementary school teachers were exceptional role models who offered continuous support and continue to influence me today. I aspire to have a similarly positive impact on students’ lives. Practicing kindness is crucial, as we may not always be aware of what students and colleagues are experiencing. Diversity enriches our environment, and it is important to acknowledge the range of circumstances households face—whether financial, cultural, spiritual, or life changes affecting students. The most effective educators provide emotional support and academic challenges within a safe learning environment.
The progressivism philosophy emphasizes that teachers should observe each child's individual skills. Student comprehension is demonstrated through their ongoing development, which can be tracked by comparing personal growth from the start of the year to the end of a semester. Academic performance can also be assessed through test and homework results. Reflecting on my own elementary school experience, I recall feeling acknowledged and supported within a collaborative environment. Given the significant amount of time students spend with their teacher each year, educators play a crucial role in shaping their experiences. Therefore, it is essential for teachers to understand and value each student's interests, experiences, and abilities, as every child offers unique strengths that contribute positively to the classroom community.
